MISSISSIPPI OVERSIZE PERMITS INFORMATION
Permits:
Permits are valid for 3 days. Driver must have permit prior to entering the state.
Operating time:
Travel is allowed one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset, Monday through Saturday. No Sunday travel. Continuous movement is allowed for loads not exceeding 12′ wide, 13’6″ high, 99′ overall length, 150,000 pounds GVW, 4′ rear overhang, and with proper lighting for night travel. However, when the load is over 10′ wide, an escort is required for night travel.
Restrictions:
No travel after 12:00 noon on days prior to major holidays and some holiday weekends. No travel is allowed for loads over 12′ wide in Jackson, Memphis and Gulf Coast areas from 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Escorts:
· Width: Over 12’11″ – 1 escort pilot car; over 16′ – 2 escort pilot cars; over 10′ wide at night – 1 escort pilot car
· Length: Over 95′ – 1 escort pilot car (2 on some routes); over 105′ – 2 escort pilot cars
· Height: The DOT may require an escort with high pole for some routes if conditions warrant. A route survey is required when exceeding 15’7″ in height.
· Overhang: Over 15′ front or rear – 1 escort pilot car
Security measures:
“Oversize Load” signs are required for all loads exceeding 12 feet wide. Flags are required on all corners of loads that measure 10′ – 12′ wide. Loads over 12′ wide require flashing amber lights mounted on the rear of the load and signs on the front of the load. Over length loads and loads that exceed 4′ overhang must be flagged.
