New Mexico Oversize Information
Permits
The transportation permit is valid for 5 days. The driver must have the corresponding document that grants him the right to enter the state.
Operating Time
New Mexico oversize overweight permits allow for travel one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset 7 days a week. Loads not exceeding 10’ wide, 14’6” high, 120’ long and/or 140,000 pounds are permitted continuous travel.
Restrictions
Monday through Friday, movement is prohibited between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the city limits of Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Los Lunas and Espanola. No travel on major holidays.
Speed Limit
Permittee shall comply with all posted speed limits and under no circumstances shall the permittee exceed sixty-five (65) MPH.

Routine State Oversize Permit Limits
Width: Depends on routes.
Height: 15’6″ needs a route survey; 18′ needs utility surveys and clearance from municipal and local authorities.

Weight: Single – 23,000 on Interstate, 18,000 – 20,000 all other roads, depending on spacing;Tandem – 46,000; Tridem – 60,000; Quad – 68,000; 5 axles – 105,000; 6 axles – 119,000; 7 axles – 127,000
Escorts
Width: Over 14′ – 1 escort (a few routes require an escort for over 12′ wide); over 18′ – 2 escorts; over 20′ – police escort and Flagmen
Height: Over 15′6″; – 1 escort and route survey (some routes may require route survey for lower heights)
Length: Over 90′ – 1 escort; over 110′ – 2 escorts
Security Measures
When an overwide load includes a bulldozer or construction equipment with a blade or other attachments, such attachments shall be completely lowered and angled as much as possible to minimize the width and shall be secured to the vehicle.
“Oversize Load” signs required on any oversize, overweight or overweight only load. Red flags at least 18″ square must be affixed to each corner and the widest part of the load. Loads that exceed 3′ front overhang or 4′ rear overhang require flags on each corner if load is 2′ in width.
